Secrets Of The Neglected Wife

Chapter 1313

Chapter 1313:

“Fine, but you need to come back as soon as possible.”

“I know,” she replied smoothly.

Even though the Stevens Group was crumbling, there was still value to squeeze out of it.

Before the company completely folded, she could still funnel four hundred thousand out through some creative financial maneuvers.

She had already been quietly transferring funds into her private account—laying the groundwork to abandon the Stevens family at the right moment.

As soon as she arrived at the office, she dialed a familiar contact in the finance department.

“I’m coming to see you now. I need four hundred thousand today. Just like before—you’ll get your cut.”

Silence stretched on the other end of the line. Melany’s brows knitted together.

Why was everyone so strange today?

Impatience creeping in, she snapped,

“Why aren’t you saying anything? Have I ever shorted you on your share?”

Her voice took on a sharp edge.

“If you back out now, I’ll make sure every illegal deal we’ve done comes to light.”

Finally, the response came—slow and deliberate.

“Understood, Mrs. Stevens. Please come over, and I’ll prepare the draft.”

Relieved, she adjusted her bag, straightened her posture, and strutted upstairs in her high heels.

When she reached the finance department, she knocked three times, then pushed the door open without waiting for a reply.

“What’s taking you so long today—” Her words caught in her throat.

Colton sat in the head’s chair.

His face was unreadable.

Her heart slammed against her ribcage, panic washing over her.

“Colton… What are you doing here?”

“By the way, are you hungry?”noveldrama

Melany had a habit of changing the subject whenever she felt the pangs of guilt. It was an unconscious impulse to steer clear of any confrontation.

But it couldn’t be… Surely, meeting here must be just a coincidence. Melany forced herself to calm down and plastered a bewildered look on her face, as if she knew nothing.

But Colton’s tone was cold and distant, the kind of tone he would use when speaking to a stranger.

“Shouldn’t I be the one asking you how you ended up in this place?”

Clearly, he wasn’t easily fooled by her act.

Melany felt a chill run down her spine.

Colton’s deep eyes looked darker than usual, like the depths of an abyss, just waiting to pull her in.

She blinked innocently and tried to look aggrieved.

“I came to see you, of course. I’ve been calling you these last few days, but you never answered.”

Melany had perfected the art of lying.

“Besides, I’m so bored at home. After hearing that you might be here, I came right over. I was hoping we could have dinner together.”
