Chapter 432 Soothing Mom and Dad
Vera looked at Sierra in a daze as a mix of emotions washed over her. This was the first time she had seen Sierra this intimidating.
In the past, Sierra would always cry pitifully after she got scolded. Now, however, she had grown up and become an adult who could protect Vera, whose eyes were brimming with relief.
At the same time, Vera's attitude toward William was undergoing subtle changes. She wasn't masochistic. Naturally, she didn't want to be abused by him every single day either.
However, she didn't have much choice. She had to suck it up and endure the abuse to keep Sierra safe. Now that he had a stroke, he could no longer beat anyone up or have any money to spend.
Vera looked at him, thinking about the old days when he would abuse her verbally and physically for no apparent reason. The fear in her eyes was gone, replaced by peace and tranquility.
"Sierra, he's already in this sorry state. He won't be able to hit me anymore. There's no need to worry about it."
William looked at them with disbelief and snarled, "Drop dead, you two. How dare you threaten me and fantasize about controlling me? I'm not afraid of you. I might not be able to rely on you two, but I've still got Xavier on my side. He won't ditch me."noveldrama
Sierra felt nothing but irony as he lashed out and voiced his reliance on Xavier. Moving aside a little, she cast a glance at the door. She could see the figure hiding outside through the door's small glass window.
Shortly after, she turned her gaze and looked at William again. "Oh, really?"
Her tone was so deliberate that it infuriated him, and his face turned red with rage. He glared at her intensely and used his one good hand to grip the nightstand. After two whole minutes, he finally managed to flip it to the floor.
However, there was only so much strength in one hand, and William simply couldn't smash Sierra with the nightstand. Feeling frustrated, he swept his eyes across the room, searching for the next thing to hurl at her.
"That's enough. Sierra is your daughter. Are you seriously trying to kill her?" This was the first time Vera had raised her voice against him. She simply couldn't take it anymore.
Ever since William woke up and found out that he couldn't walk or eat without assistance, he had been throwing fits of tantrum, throwing stuff, and snarling at everyone.
Vera could live with it, though. After all, she had gotten used to it.
However, he was still trying to abuse Sierra, even though he was already bedridden. There was his frightening glare as well, making it the last straw for her.
"H-How dare you shout at me? Looks like you've got a death wish, huh? Itching for another beating, are we? I'm going to show you who is the boss around here. You'll pay the price!"
William looked at Vera, who

suddenly had an outburst. Initially,
he was startled. Then, he got infuriated. He might've threatened to kill her, but he simply lacked the strength to do it. His fists couldn't find their target. At some point, they did brush her clothes, but it didn't hurt at all.
Vera was a little scared when he said that he was about to hit her. However, she was stunned when she actually felt how weak his punch was. Then, she cried and laughed.
Sierra saw how out of sorts Vera was and quietly walked over to hug her mom.
William realized that Vera was laughing at how powerless he was, and his rage intensified. Wriggling, he tried to get up, but all he succeeded was falling off the bed.
"H-Help me!" He stuttered. His head leaned on the cold, unfeeling floor as he thrashed in vain.
The figure standing outside couldn't watch it anymore. Opening the door, he came inside and asked, "Dad, are you okay?"
Xavier had just helped William up when William gripped his wrist.
He stared at him intently and asked as he drooled, "Xavier, you won't leave me to
my fate, will you? Tell them you'll look after me and give me pocket money."
It could've been that William was trying to prove a point to Sierra or that he simply lacked confidence. In any case, he kept asking Xavier a barrage of questions, almost as if he wouldn't stop until Xavier had given him an answer.
Sierra comforted Vera, who was leaning on her chest and unloading her emotions. She cast a calm glance at Xavier, waiting for his response.
Xavier felt intensely uneasy. He pried William's hand off several times, only for William to latch onto him again Eventually, he didn't have a choice but to answer, "I won leave you alone, Dad. Don't worry."
