Chapter 393
(Olivia's POV)
My focus wasn't on Ethan Stone's explanation about saving Victoria. His words about Connor Blackthorn handing over evidence struck me like lightning.
"The evidence has been given to the Northern Territory Enforcers," Ethan continued, his amber eyes intense. "It's irrefutable. Victoria will be punished by pack law."
My wolf stirred within me, a whine of relief escaping through our bond. Lily and Matriarch Evelyn could finally rest in peace.
My emotions crashed over me like a tidal wave. I couldn't control the trembling in my lips as tears filled my emerald eyes.
I looked down, covering my mouth with my hand. Large tears fell despite my efforts to contain them.
I was suppressing a silent cry of pain, my wolf's anguish echoing through my very soul. The road to seeking justice for Lily had been impossibly difficult.
The past scenes were deeply etched in my mind like silver scars. My Lily had been sleeping in the Sacred Moonlight Cemetery for nearly three years before she could receive justice.
During the thousand-plus days and nights after Lily's death, I couldn't eat or sleep whenever I thought of Victoria. The murderer had been living well under Ethan's protection while my daughter lay cold in the ground.
Finally, I had waited for the day when Victoria would be punished. Lucas was right - the wheels of justice turn slowly but grind surely.
Evil wolves will eventually face pack judgment.
Seeing my tears, Ethan's heart suddenly constricted. His Alpha instincts surged with protective anguish.
"Olivia, I'm sorry," he whispered, filled with heartache. He reached out to embrace me, his movements desperate.
If he hadn't mistaken Victoria from the start, none of the tragedies would have happened. He wouldn't have hurt me so deeply because of the misunderstanding.
He wouldn't have neglected Lily because of the deception, ignoring her for five whole years. He wouldn't have indirectly caused the deaths of both Lily and Matriarch Evelyn.
"Slap!" Before Ethan could touch me, my mother rushed over.
Evelyn Winters delivered a powerful blow across the Alpha King's face. Her human strength was enhanced by maternal fury.
She shielded me behind her like a mother wolf protecting her pup. Her eyes blazed with fierce wariness as she stared at Ethan.
"What did you do to Olivia again to make her cry?" she demanded. Her voice carried authority despite having no wolf.
"Ethan Stone, haven't you hurt Olivia enough? How can you bear to hurt her again?"
Mom had just finished her medical check-up. She saw Olivia and Ethan facing each other, with me crying in sadness.
Since my depression had improved, she hadn't seen me so devastated in a long time. She assumed that Ethan had made me cry.
As a mother, she already felt she had failed me too much. She felt the pain of all the suffering I had endured.
Protecting me was a mother's instinct, wolf or not.
"Mrs. Winters, I'm sorry," Ethan apologized without defending himself. His Alpha
pride bowed before a mother's righteous anger.
Shielded behind my mother, I couldn't hold back my emotions at the sight of her. I threw myself into her arms, hugging her tightly.
"Mom, Victoria has finally been
caught by the enforcers," I said
tearfully, "Lily's justice can finally be
served. My Lily, she can finally rest in peace in the ancestral hunting
grounds."
Unable to avenge Lily, I had felt too much guilt towards my deceased daughter. Hearing this, Mom was clearly stunned.
As I finished speaking, I was already sobbing uncontrollably. Mom didn't dare to ask further, hugging me while gently patting my back to comfort me.
Then she turned her gaze to the Alpha King.
Ethan repeated what he had just told me to Mom. His voice was heavy with the weight of an Alpha's judgment.
Confirming that the evidence was solid this time, Mom couldn't help but shed tears as well. Her heart was breaking for her granddaughter she'd never met.
"Ethan Stone, swear you won't
protect Victoria again," she
demanded fiercely. "If you let her off
lightly because of Emma, may the
Moon Goddess curse you with
eternal loneliness."
In Mom's eyes, Ethan wasn't trustworthy. She hadn't forgotten that he had personally exposed Victoria but had easily let her go again because of Emma.
I had kept it from her, but how could she not guess? How could she know that Ethan wouldn't repeat the same mistake this time?
"Emma died last night," Ethan said in a low voice. His Alpha composure was cracking.noveldrama
"Mrs. Winters, even if Emma hadn't died, I wouldn't let Victoria escape justice because of her."
Ethan's words made Mom's expression slightly soften. She was a kind-hearted person, but hearing that Emma had died, she felt no sympathy.
The Moon Goddess's justice was swift. Ethan had finally done something right, personally sending the murderer who killed Lily to the enforcers.
Line
In the bustling medical center lobby, Mom and I embraced and cried. While we were relieved that Lily's justice had finally been served, we also felt endless sadness and loss.
