Chapter 229: Paternity Test
Chapter 229: Chapter 229: Paternity Test
"No... please..."
In the early hours of the morning, Mo Chuxi opened the door and entered the hospital room, only to hear Yan Xinxin’s terrified pleas.
He quickly walked to the bedside and saw Yan Xinxin’s pale face, her forehead glistening with cold sweat. Her delicate, pale pink lips parted and closed, frightened whispers escaping, cries for help and desperate pleas...
She was having a nightmare, a terrifying one.
"Please, spare me..."
Yan Xinxin sobbed in fear, and Mo Chuxi could clearly see a tear rolling down from the corner of her eye.
His heart skipped a beat, and he immediately leaned closer.
"Yan Xinxin, Yan Xinxin?"
He called her softly, his hand gently caressing her cheek in an attempt to soothe and comfort her. Yet, she was still trapped in the nightmare, curling up in fear.
Seeing her like this, Mo Chuxi felt a sharp pain gripping his chest, and he reached out to hold her trembling body in his arms.
"Yan Xinxin, don’t be afraid, I’m here..."
It was as if his words of comfort reached her. Yan Xinxin’s trembling gradually subsided, and she instinctively nestled deeper into his embrace.
"Brother Xi, you’ve finally come to save me..."
Yan Xinxin murmured softly, her tightly furrowed brows finally relaxing. noveldrama
Mo Chuxi froze, momentarily stunned, and looked at Yan Xinxin in disbelief.
It seemed like she had called him "Xi." The faint words that followed were too soft and blurred for him to catch completely, though it sounded as if she had called him "Brother." But did Yan Xinxin even have a brother?
Holding Yan Xinxin’s petite, warm figure, Mo Chuxi’s heartbeat gradually steadied.
By the moonlight, he lifted his hand and gently wiped the sweat from her forehead. Thinking about how many nights she must have endured such nightmares, his heart tightened with a faint ache.
Mo Chuxi leaned down and planted a tender kiss on her brow, holding her even tighter.
☆
As dawn broke, Mo Chuxi opened his deep eyes. When he shifted his body, an ache spread through his muscles.
At six feet two inches tall, he had maintained the same position all night just to let her sleep peacefully. Sharing this cramped single hospital bed, it was inevitable his body would feel sore.
Mo Chuxi looked down at her tranquil sleeping face. It was serene yet faintly pale.
He leaned closer, pressing his forehead against hers. Quickly, he noticed the unusual warmth of her skin.
Mo Chuxi withdrew his arm and decisively got out of bed...
At a certain DNA testing center.
Mu Qianshui, wearing sunglasses and dressed in understated black, personally handed two hair samples to the staff.
"Excuse me, what’s the fastest time to get the results?"
Mu Qianshui lowered her voice, urgency evident in her tone.
The staff member looked up at Mu Qianshui, her features seeming vaguely familiar, though not entirely clear.
"Hello, the fastest would be three working days."
"Can’t it be quicker? Money isn’t an issue!" Mu Qianshui urged impatiently.
The staff gave her another look.
"We can expedite. You can come back tomorrow at this time to collect the results."
Satisfied with the reply, Mu Qianshui’s crimson lips curved into a smile.
"Great! Thank you!"
Twenty-four hours—she could live with that, though the anticipation was nearly unbearable!
Especially now—no matter how she looked at Mu Chenxi, everything about him resembled Mo Chuxi!
Yan Xinxin drifted through several deep dreams before groggily waking up. The moment she opened her eyes, she felt a heavy sensation in her head.
"You’re awake?"
A nurse organizing the cabinet noticed Yan Xinxin and smiled warmly.
"You caught a bit of a cold, but your husband said he doesn’t want you to have an IV drip that might affect the baby in your belly. He said he’d go back and prepare ginger tea for you. He’s really good to you."
"...My husband?"
Yan Xinxin blinked her sleepy eyes, and Mo Chuxi’s face flashed in her mind.
This seemingly inexperienced nurse thought Mo Chuxi was her husband?
And—did she hear correctly? Mo Chuxi went back to make her ginger tea?
"Well, you should rest properly. If you feel unwell, just call me."
Yan Xinxin nodded.
"Thank you."
She thanked her and slowly sat up.
Thinking back, it seemed she had had that nightmare from five years ago again last night. The nightmare about that inhuman man...
Yan Xinxin stopped herself from further recalling the past. She got up and went to the bathroom to freshen up.
Just as she finished washing her face, she heard the sound of someone entering outside. Assuming it was Mo Chuxi, she was about to step out, only to find Mira standing there, arms crossed.
"Well, Lady Yan, you seem to be in good spirits!" Mira smirked arrogantly.
"Do you need something?" Yan Xinxin asked indifferently.
"Do I need a reason to come see you? Who do you think you are? A superstar?"
It was clear from her demeanor that Mira was here to pick a fight, and Yan Xinxin found herself growing annoyed.
"Well then, excuse me. I need to rest. Please leave..."
Just as Yan Xinxin was speaking, a tall figure charged through the doorway.
"So, you must be Yan Xinxin!"
What do you think?
