Chapter 900
Everyone there, except for Chloe, was completely taken aback. Even Kash showed a flicker of surprise before his brow furrowed in confusion. Pax stood right next to them, puzzled by what he thought was Claire's mistake. How could she confuse his uncle with him?
Pax moved forward, gently grabbing Claire's arm. "Mom, I'm here. It's me, Pax," he said softly.
But Claire didn't even glance at Pax. Her eyes were locked onto Connor, tears already blurring her vision. She clung to Connor with desperation. "My son, my son!" she cried out.
In that moment, Claire seemed to be in a world of her own. Everything else faded away, leaving only Connor in her sight. She looked at him as if she were seeing the embodiment of her deepest love. He was the child she had with Colin. His features were a blend of Hank's and her own.
Claire's heart ached with a pain so intense it left her breathless. It wasn't just the guilt and remorse for the years she had unwittingly tormented Connor. There was also a deep sense of regret and self-loathing. If only she had known from the beginning that Connor was her child. If only she could have been there as he grew, to nurture him. If only he had been by her side all these years, calling her 'Mom.' What a different life that would have been.
For years, she had been trapped in her own personal hell, seeing Connor as a demon she needed to fight off. But she had been so wrong. So very wrong. She could have been happy, truly joyful. The idea of having a child with Colin should have brought her joy beyond measure. But she had destroyed it all. With her own hands.
Slowly, she reached out, longing to
touch Connor's face. Her eyes were filled with a tumultuous mix of with a
emotions, like a storm raging at sea. But before her fingers could graze his skin, Connor stepped back, putting his arm free from her grasp.
His voice was icy. "Ma'am, you've got the wrong person."
The word 'ma'am' jolted Claire back to reality. It was like a sharp blade, cutting through the fragile thread connecting them. A torrent of regret washed over her. Claire knew she might not survive this encounter, and if she didn't speak now, she might never get another chance.
She collapsed to her knees with a thud, bowing at Connor's feet, tears streaming down her face. "Connor was wrong. Fate played a cruel joke on us separating mother from son. You're not a mistake. You're Hank's and my child, Connor. Do you understand? Your real father is Hank. You're our child..."
Claire's sorrow was overwhelming. What had she done all these years? Was there anything more cruel than this?noveldrama
Pax stood nearby, completely stunned. What was Claire saying? His uncle was actually his mother's child with Hank? Though hard to believe, Pax knew Claire wasn't just making things up. His uncle was his brother? Pax was too shocked to speak.
But if his uncle was truly his mother's child, why had she spent so much time trying to destroy him?
What do you think?
