Chapter 1788
The car rolled up to the Woods estate, its grand entrance looming before them.
Tyler knocked on the massive wooden doors a few times, but no one answered. It was Nash who, seizing the moment when no one was around, managed to get them inside.
"What took you so long?" Nash asked, his voice tinged with anxiety. At the main branch of the Woods family, he didn't exactly call the shots.
In the Woods family, it wasn't your status that mattered, but your strength. If you were strong enough, you could carve out a place for yourself. The real challenge was in not being able to inherit the family legacy, though the perks were ample.
"Albert brought Josie to apologize in person, and Jackson's dealing with it," Nash explained hurriedly, leading Fiona towards the study next to the sitting room.
But Fiona had other plans. Instead of heading to the study, she went straight to the sitting room door, gave it a quick knock, and waltzed right in.
Nash was practically trembling behind her. Within the main branch of the Woods family, he really didn't have the clout to shield Fiona, let alone Shelly and Tyler.
Inside, Grandpa Woods, Jackson, Albert, and Josie were seated. Four pairs of eyes snapped to the door, surprised at the boldness of someone knocking at this hour. Albert's expression turned icy as he eyed Fiona.
Dressed in a youthful outfit, Fiona's presence seemed to irk Albert even more, who thought the Woods family was showing a lack of decorum.
"And who might you be?" Albert squinted, fixing Fiona with a steely gaze. "Do you not know where you are?"
Everyone in the room knew who everyone else was, but they insisted on playing this charade. Fiona wasn't having any of it.
Ignoring Albert, Fiona offered Grandpa Woods a warm smile. "Mr. Woods, it's been too long."
Her easy rapport with Grandpa Woods made Albert suspicious. He suspected this gathering was a ploy by the Woods and Stonnell families to diminish the Larkin family's influence. Otherwise, why would Fiona be so chummy with Grandpa Woods?
Taking a seat next to Jackson, Fiona's hands showed signs of her recent works—
pale from water and a few cuts from an art knife.
Jackson gently took Fiona's hand in his, rubbing it softly. In just a few short
weeks, she seemed even more slender.
"This must be Fiona. My, how you've grown! I remember holding you as a baby," Grandpa Woods beamed warmly.
A marriage between the Woods and Stonnell families wasn't a bad idea. That's partly why Grandpa Woods allowed Jackson to take the reins. With support from the Stonnel family, the Woods family could soar. Fiona's private actions against the Larkin family had also earned her Grandpa Woods' respect.
"Yeah, it's been over ten years. Mr. Woods, you haven't aged a bit," Fiona said breezily, deliberately overlooking Albert and Josie.noveldrama
She was curious to see how long Albert would keep quiet before finally speaking
up.
"Your parents' story was quite the talk of the town back in the day, wasn't it? Truly a mark of the elite."
Nobody directly mentioned the Larkin family.
"Mr. Woods, you've got quite the
memory, Fiona leaned on Jackson's
shoulder. "Down the road, with
whatever happens between me and
Jackson, we'll definitely nee@your
support, Mr. Woods."
