Chapter 16

Xavier's eyes were cold as he addressed Timothy. "Who gave you the permission to contact a lawyer for her?" Timothy stood frozen, his face pale as he lowered his head, unable to say anything but feeling deeply wronged. Two years ago, when Lily married Xavier, Bobby had begun using their relationship for his own gain.

Lily wasn't involved in the business world, so Bobby bypassed her and went directly to Xavier.

At first, Xavier had entertained it, but as Bobby made more and more requests, Xavier grew tired and handed the responsibility to Timothy to deal with.

After Timothy took over, he did what he could to help Bobby when it benefited the Joyner family.

What had started as professional slowly morphed into personal matters. Timothy had asked Xavier's permission, and Xavier had told him to handle everything as he saw fit. When Bobby called about the lawyer, Timothy had simply taken care of it.

He had forgotten that Lily and Xavier were in the middle of a divorce.

The conversation that had just transpired between them shook Timothy to his core, each word they exchanged rattling him.

He had tried to speak up, but neither of them had given him a chance.

"Give me the phone." Xavier extended his hand towards Timothy.

Lily's heart lurched, and her hands instinctively grabbed Xavier's wrist. "Xavier-"noveldrama

His gaze was unwavering, and Lily's attempts to hold onto his arm were futile,

His words were absolute, and Timothy didn't dare disobey. He quickly unlocked his phone and handed it to Xavier.

Just as Xavier took the phone, the office door burst open. A voice shouted in panic, "Mr. Fulton, something happened to Ms. Lynde! You need to go check on her now-"

The loud noise startled Lily, and she instinctively moved closer to Xavier.

In the next moment, Xavier shoved her aside, causing her to stumble and crash painfully into the edge of the desk.

A sharp pain shot through her hip, and she hissed through clenched teeth as a cold sweat

broke out on her forehead.

Xavier, however, was already turning away. He rushed toward the door.

"What happened to Sarah?" he called, his tone frantic as he disappeared down the hall.

Lily stood frozen, her mind spinning. Xavier had already left his office and got out of Lily's sight.

He was gone. He left in such a hurry that there was no time for him to help with hiring Alan for Hayden.

If she could just get to the law office and sign the retainer agreement, Alan would have no choice but to take Hayden's case.

"Timothy, thank you."

She muttered under her breath before quickly turning to leave the office.

As she hurried out of Nova Group, she saw Xavier's Maybach pulling out of the underground garage. She could faintly see his face through the tinted window. He was stressed and preoccupied. The car brushed past her, and she wasn't sure if he had seen her. Maybe he had, but he was too focused on whatever was happening with Sarah to pay attention to her.

She couldn't help but feel a strange sense of gratitude toward Sarah at this moment-her

⚫ crisis had given Lily the chance to save Hayden.

Shaking off her thoughts, Lily hailed an Uber and headed straight for Jiang's house.

When she arrived, only Hazel was at home.

Seeing Lily return, Hazel rushed up to her. "Did you manage to get Mr. Siester?"

"I came to pick up the documents related to the case. I'm going to take them to Mr. Siester's office. Don't worry, everything will be fine-"

Lily couldn't bring herself to be overly optimistic about getting Alan to represent Hayden.

She still didn't know whether she'd get the chance to meet him before Xavier intervened. Hazel's red, swollen eyes told a different story.

Before Lily could offer any comfort, Hazel cut her off. "There's a backup of the documents. Hurry up and take it!"

She handed Lily a car video footage that clearly documented the moment Hayden hit the pedestrian.

Hazel pushed Lily towards the door. "Call me when there's any progress!"

As she rushed to leave, the doorframe was narrow, and in her haste, Lily accidentally bumped Chapter 16

her arm against it with a dull thud.

She instinctively held her elbow, wincing from the pain.

Hazel glanced at her, then asked, "Where's your car?"

"I... I was in a hurry, so I took an Uber." Lily winced, her brows knitted from the pain.
