Chapter 405
"Xavier... Xavier didn't defend Sarah," Maryanne said, looking dazed. "The police took her away."
Surprise flashed in Lily's eyes. She quickly masked the look in her eyes and said, "It's probably because he can't outright defend her in public."
There were so many eyes on them, after all. The news of Sarah being taken away for interrogation might make it to the headlines, but Xavier could always get her out in secret.
Either way, it would be better than him unabashedly defending her in public-it would only ruin her reputation.
"That bastard's assistant was interviewed by the media earlier, claiming that he would never be biased toward Sarah. He'll have the police deal with this justly," Maryanne said, hardly believing her ears.
She even doubted whether her phone was broken. Had someone tampered with the scenes of the live broadcast?
But before she could go downstairs and have a look herself, the reporters promptly closed the live stream. They were in a hurry to release the next article.
This proved that what she heard earlier from Timothy during the live broadcast was true.
Staring at the dispersing crowd downstairs, Lily remarked, "They're just saying it for show. Why do you believe them so easily?"
She hardly believed anything Xavier said now.
"What are you guys talking about?" Terence asked, noting Maryanne's frustration.
A nurse emerged from behind him with a registration pad and said, "Hello, Ms. Joyner. You can now move to the VIP ward on the fifth floor. The caregiver will come later to collect your things."
Hayden had brought her to the hospital in a hurry. He hadn't had much cash with him, so she had only been admitted to a normal ward. Terence had upgraded her ward.
After the nurse finished speaking, he nudged Maryanne and said, "Take Lily to her ward. I'll keep an eye on the nurse as she packs her stuff."
"How thoughtful of you!" Maryanne gave him a thumbs-up, immediately brushing off her earlier concern.
After all, whatever consequences Sarah would have to face in the end depended on the police investigation results.
Maryanne stepped forward and linked arms with Lily. "Going to the VIP ward is perfect! The companion bed there is much softer than this one. It's just right for me!"
"It's fine." Lily declined, "I'm fine staying here."
She didn't dare to go to the VIP ward. One night cost at least a few thousand dollars, and her financial situation didn't allow her to enjoy such luxury.
Although Bruce had been arrested and would likely have to compensate her in the end, she was afraid that the money she had wouldn't last until the verdict and payout.
Would she have to go from a VIP room back to a regular ward by then?
"I'll cover all your medical expenses," Terence said, seeing right through her concerns. He continued packing her things, not giving her a chance to refuse as he continued, "You can pay me back once Bruce's
dovel?
MS
compensation comes through."
Lily hesitated. For some reason, Terence seemed quite different today. He wasn't as gentle as usual there was a quiet determination in him that made it
hard to refuse.
"Oh, come on, why be so polite with us?" Maryanne chided, tugging her along. "That compensation is something you risked your life for just keep it for yourself!"
The nurse also exited the room and led them to the VIP ward.
Lily had one arm in a sling, but even if she were completely fine, she wouldn't have been able to resist Maryanne's force.
They arrived first on the fifth floor, where Terence and two other nurses followed
suit with her belongings after ten minutes.
He also brought an extra set of breakfast.
The breakfast Hayden had bought
for Lily earlier had been left
untouched, Her room had been
bustling with people all morning, and the oatmeal had long gone cold. She wasn't planning to eat it anymore.
"You can't recover if you don't eat," Terence urged, inserting a straw into the oatmeal before handing it to her.
He opened another box containing two butter croissants. "They're from your favorite place. Try them."
Craning her neck to see what he had brought, Maryanne exclaimed, "Terence, you're being way too thoughtful!"noveldrama
"Am I?" he responded without glancing up.
"Yes!" she said firmly. "How come you never treat me this well?"
What do you think?
