My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus)

After two hours of waiting, Lucius had practically carved an invisible path from pacing back and forth. No one came out to tell him anything. He just wanted to know if his wife and their baby-boy or girl-were okay. The baby's arrival was way too early, and during the last checkup, they hadn't even been able to tell what it was going to be.

Lucius looked anxious-clearly distressed. He didn't know what to think or what else to do. He kept asking the nurses, but the answer was always the same:

"You'll have to wait until the doctors come out and give you an update."

A few more minutes later, Angela arrived running with a bag slung over her shoulder. She looked a little disheveled from how quickly she'd tried to get there.

"Lucius, honey! How are they? What have they told you? What happened?" she asked as soon as she reached him.

"Nothing...! They haven't told me anything!" he said, anguish written all over his face.

"What do you mean, nothing? Wait here. You're the father-you should be in there for the birth, if the baby's really coming. I'll go find out what's going on."

Angela, with her usual fierce personality, never needed to throw her name around —she just had to stand her ground when it came to protecting those she loved.

"Miss, two hours ago a young woman named Amanda Evans, née Hayward was admitted to the ER, and we haven't heard a thing. As far as we know, she was about to give birth, but they haven't let the father in and no one has come out with any updates. What's going on?"

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but we don't have that information... You'll need to wait for someone to come out and give you an update."

"Oh really? So we just sit here for over two hours without knowing anything? And if the baby's born already, isn't that young man sitting over there supposed to be in the delivery room with his wife?"

"I'm sorry, but that's confidential information."

"Okay... I tried to do this the nice way..." said Angela, pulling out her phone, finding a contact, and calling. "Marcellus, sweetheart, I hate to bother you, but I've got a problem here with the service at your hospital..." she said, putting the call on speaker.

"What's going on, Angela? Tell me, how can I help?" came the voice of a man on the other end.

"Marcellus, my dear, I have a patient here-she's basically my

sister-in-law. She was admitted with signs of preterm labor, and no one will give us any updates. We've been waiting over two hours," said Angela, glaring at the nurses, who were now visibly nervous.

Marcellus Smith was the hospital owner and a longtime friend of Anthony Moriarty. They'd been childhood playmates. Though they didn't see each other often anymore, their friendship went way back.

"I understand your concern, Angela, and that's not how we operate. Let me speak with the hospital director. Give me five minutes and you'll be getting an update shortly."

"Thanks, Marcellus."

"You're welcome... and sorry for the inconvenience. I'll get on it right now-and if needed, I'll come down myself."

The nurses glanced at Angela, but said nothing. Barely five minutes passed before the hospital director appeared in front of her.

"Mrs. Moriarty, my sincerest apologies. Mr. Smith informed me of the situation,

and I've already looked into it. Please, come with me..." the doctor said, motioning toward a hallway.

"Lucius, sweetheart, come on, let's go," said Angela to the young man, who looked consumed by worry.

"Again, I'm sorry," said the director.

"We'll contact the surgical team immediately. In the meantime, you can stay here and wait. I truly regret this whole situation-I wasn't aware of what was happening. We' resolve it right away."

"Thank you. I didn't expect anything less from you," said Angela, squeezing Lucius's hand.

Meanwhile, more of the family began arriving at the hospital. Where Lucius had once been alone, now Maximus, Laura, Matthew, and Magnus had joined him in the waiting area.noveldrama
