Chapter 1143
"Lucius..." said Laura, walking into the room.
"Laura..." Lucius said, and as soon as he saw her, he threw himself into her arms.
"Brother... Everything's going to be okay."
"I... I shouldn't have argued with her father. I should've taken her home, I..."
"No, Lucius, you need to stay calm. She's going to be okay. The baby's going to
be okay. Just think-she's going to be a beautiful girl. We finally know... it's a girl," said Laura, trying to bring a little light into the darkness.
"What if something happens to Amanda? What am I supposed to do? Tell me, what do I do?" Lucius asked through tears.
"Brother, you have to be strong. Remember, between the two of us, you've always been the strong one. You can't fall apart now."
"Right now, we have to stay positive. We have to pray for Amanda and your baby girl. If something bad happens, we'll deal with it when the time comes. But remember this—never, never, Lucius Evans, will you be alone," said Laura, hugging him tightly.noveldrama
The two siblings had always been close. Past mistakes had distanced them, but now more than ever, they knew they had to be united.
Time passed, and another doctor came out with an update. The baby had been born-still very small, now in an incubator-but she was doing well. Lucius could see her at any moment; he just needed to put on the proper gear.
As for the mother, things weren't so good. The news wasn't encouraging. They were trying to stabilize her with IV magnesium sulfate, but the doctor offered no promises. Her condition wasn't improving, and multiple organs were starting to fail.
The message was clear-they needed to prepare for the worst. Whatever hope remained was quickly slipping away.
Lucius couldn't believe how everything had changed in the blink of an eye.
Just that morning, he'd woken up watching her sleep. Pregnancy had made her extra sleepy, and he loved that. He loved how she stretched like a cat and shifted around-even with that massive belly, she always found a way to get comfortable.
Now, he was about to meet his daughter. The woman he loved more than anything... might not make it. Life was stealing someone from him again someone he loved with all his heart, maybe even more than anyone he'd ever loved.
There was no holding back the tears. No way not to feel broken, devastated. He
was about to be alone again...
"Son..." said Maximus, approaching the young man, who had his forehead pressed against the wall, crying in silence.
"What is it, Dad?" Lucius asked, standing up and trying to look strong.
"Come here..." said Maximus, opening his arms for a hug.
Maximus knew this loss would destroy his son. He knew how much Amanda meant to him.
He could see his son was barely holding it together-pretending to be strong. And for a moment, he saw himself... back when he was young and had just lost his own brother.
"Dad... What am I going to do...? She can't go... She can't leave us... We had plans. She and I were going to raise our baby girl together..." the young man sobbed.
"I know, son. I know. But..."
"No. Please don't say it."
"Lucius..."
"She has to wake up. She has to get up. She has to take care of me, of our daughter. We're a family..."
"We all know that. We all know how much you love her. And it's not fair-none of this is. But no one ever said life would be fair. We just have to faceit the best we can. You' daughter needs you now... more than ever."
Lucius cried until he couldn't anymore. He was about to walk into the NICU and meet the little one they
had been dreaming of for months. He was about to meet the only thing he might have left of the woman he loved with all his heart.
