Chapter 417
From the moment Nadine saw Brad holding Jean, the disappointment she had bottled up for years began to overflow.
Initially, when she married Brad, she had seen him as nothing more than a substitute, and her feelings for him were complicated. However, as time went on, she poured her heart and soul into their family, giving Brad all the love she had.noveldrama
Nadine only realized just how miserably her leap of faith had failed her when she saw how gentle he was with Jean. Since Brad was in love with Jean and they had a previous agreement, she decided to end their marriage to let them be together.
She had already compromised so much-what more could he possibly want from her?
Brad's eyes widened when she said she didn't know him. "What did you just say? Repeat yourself!" Her response infuriated him. If she weren't a woman, he would have already acted physically.
Nadine took a deep breath and looked at Brad apathetically, a faint smile playing on her lips. "We are strangers, though. You should be Ms. Sawyer's husband. Why are you dragging things out with the ex-wife you clearly hate?" she asked calmly.
Her expression was stoic. There was no regret or even the slightest flicker of resentment in her eyes. It was as though she was referring to someone who had nothing to do with her.
The sheer indifference in her eyes unsettled Brad. He, who was used to always having things go his way, felt as if he had been punched in the gut when he noticed the lifelessness in her eyes.
To be honest, he was the one who had gained the most in their marriage. Over the past six years, Nadine had taken care of him with such meticulous attention. Her gentle nature and body were things he enjoyed and couldn't bring himself to part with.
He wasn't willing to let Nadine go, even if she left without asking for a dime. After all, he had gotten used to her being there for him. These days, without Nadine and Sean around, the house felt like a massive luxurious cage to him-cold and utterly devoid of warmth
He didn't want to live in such a cold, lifeless environment. The larger the house,
the lonelier he felt. Plus, his heart was feeling emptier than ever.
"Enough of this, Nadine. Come home with me. Can't we just go back to how things were?"
He couldn't figure out why she was upset at that moment. He had brought up Jean plenty of times in the past, and Nadine never made a fuss.
"If you're upset because of Jeanie, I can stay away from her." That was the most he was willing to do.
He and Jean had grown up together, and the promises he made to her as a child were still fresh in his mind. He had promised to marry her, but he ended up marrying Nadine instead. He had also promised to take care of Jean for the rest of her life, yet he had failed to keep that promise.
He felt he owed Jean so much that he might never be able to repay her in this lifetime.
Nadine was dumbfounded as his words sank in. Staring at him in disbelief, she was completely at a loss for words. She couldn't believe that, at this point, he still thought that she was upset with him because of Jean.
"Brad, I'm serious. I don't want to stay married to you anymore, and it has nothing to do with Ms. Sawyer We signed an agreement that stated we would end our marriage as soon as Ms. Sawyer returned. That agreement is still in your safe.
"I'm just honoring our agreement. Mr. Hamilton, I suggest you think about what you've done before you accuse me of kicking up a fuss next time," she said firmly, her eyes devoid of any warmth as she stared at him.
What do you think?
