Revenge is best served cold

Harvey's expression was enough to disgust me. I knew whatever he was about to say wouldn't be good.

I tilted my head curiously. "So, how exactly do you plan to compensate me, Mr. Zimmerman?"

Harvey was pleased with my cooperative attitude. "In a few days, we'll be discussing an investment deal with Flint Group. If you perform well, I'll fully acknowledge you as part of our team."

Flint Group? I couldn't help but smile.

What were the odds? At this point, I wasn't even surprised by the sheer amount of coincidences thrown my way.

Seeing me smile, Harvey mistakenly thought I was overjoyed. He walked over and patted my shoulder. "I know you have misgivings about me, but consider this a test. If you do well, there'll be benefits for you."

After returning to my desk, Heather leaned over, her eyes shining with excitement for gossip.

I chuckled helplessly and said, "It's just another case of workplace manipulation.

That evening, Eric came to pick me up after work as usual. The moment I got into the car, I spilled everything about my day. Eric couldn't stop laughing.

"That guy, Harvey-he really thinks you're just a naive rookie, doesn't he?"

I nodded. "Yeah. He's probably popping champagne at home right now, celebrating what he thinks is my upcoming downfall. How dare he use a large project with Flint Group to get rid of me? Isn't he even worried that I might drag him down with me?"

Eric leaned back against his seat, his voice soft but amused. "He's been in a position of power for too long. After years of people sucking up to him, he probably thinks he's untouchable-like he's the king of your department."

He looked at me with gentle indulgence. "Of course. It's about the investment meeting in two days, isn't it?"

"Yes." I grinned mischievously, locking eyes with him.

For a moment, we could see the same playful glint reflecting in each other's eyes.

Before the meeting, Harvey dumped a mountain of documents on me, telling me to organize them and bring them to Flint Group.

When the time came, I secured the files, packed them in my bag, and got into the company car with Harvey. On the way, Harvey deliberately reminded me that today was a test for me.

with three of Flint Group's representatives. I nodded enthusiastically, putting on an expression that held a mix of excitement and nervousness.

The moment I stepped into the conference room, I almost burst into laughter. The main negotiator was someone I didn't recognize, but the two assistants were both Eric's men people I had met before.

Clearly, even the negotiator, Rowan Williams, had been briefed in advance. He didn't seem surprised at all when he saw that I was the one presenting.

Harvey, however, looked visibly uneasy when he noticed how calm Rowan was.

I went through my presentation smoothly and then sat down.

Turning to Rowan, I asked, "What do you think?"

"I'm unimpressed," he said with a stern look on his face. "The investment ratio is too low. I don't see much sincerity from your company. If that's the case, it's better we don't proceed with this project."

Hearing this, I pretended to be confused. "But.... according to this data, Mr. Zimmerman "

Before I could finish, Harvey cut me off harshly, "Shut up!"

He immediately turned to Rowan and said in an overly eager tone, "This must be a misunderstanding My employee must have made a mistake. Please don't be upset 'll make sure everything is corrected immediately."

Rowan snorted coldly. "My time is valuable. And yet, your company handed such an important task to an employee this unprofessional? Is our cooperation a joke to you?"
