Shrouded Affections Winning Back My CEO Wife

Chapter 984

Chapter 984:

“As your host for today, I think I have the final say on this matter.” Terrell knocked on the table once and continued, “Mrs. Aston, please keep your word and be a good example to the younger generation here.” He was clearly telling Kamila to kneel.

The color drained from Kamila’s face.

Everyone in the banquet hall was staring at Kamila and whispering among themselves.

“Don’t go too far!” Jaliyah suddenly dashed from the crowd and stood in front of Kamila. “Considering Kamila’s age, how can you expect her to kneel? Have you no heart?”

“What, then? Are you going to do it for her?” Eileen asked sharply.

Jaliyah hesitated. She wanted to move aside, but before she knew it, her knees were suddenly bent. There, in front of everyone, she knelt in front of Eileen.

“This is unacceptable! How dare you force someone from the Aston family to kneel?” Kamila feigned sadness. She quickly pulled Jaliyah up, saying, “My poor daughter-in-law. I know you only did that to save me from this disgraceful predicament. This horrid woman forced your hand!”

Jaliyah was still in a daze, but then it suddenly hit her that she had just knelt for Kamila.

Eileen watched it all unfold with a smirk on her face.

“You’re quite lucky to have such a filial daughter-in-law, then. Jaliyah, I’m afraid I cannot accept your gesture. Let’s just treat it as a sign of respect to Mr. Byrd.” She then took one step closer to Kamila and said, “Out of consideration for Jaliyah, I won’t insist on you keeping your word. But don’t even think about doing something like this again.”

The air crackled with tension, and the temperature in the room seemed to have dropped a few degrees.noveldrama

Someone from the Byrd family said something in an attempt to ease the tension, and the birthday party officially began.

Despite this, Kamila still found an excuse to leave with Jaliyah. Everyone relaxed as soon as they left, and the rest of the party continued without a hitch. Eileen and Bryan left after the event ended.

Eileen knew that if Kamila heard that she had gotten along well with the other guests, it would anger her. Sure enough, she was right.

After returning home, Kamila took two heart medication pills and sat down in a chair to calm herself. Jaliyah, now realizing what had just happened, turned to her with frustration.

“You pushed me to make me fall to my knees, didn’t you?” she asked, her voice shaking with anger. “How dare you ask me to kneel and apologize for your actions? Even my own mother doesn’t make me kneel for her!”

“It doesn’t matter if you’re humiliated. I represent the entire Aston family; if anything happens to me, the family’s reputation will suffer!” Kamila responded without hesitation, her words sharp and cold.

Jaliyah, still furious, shook her head in disbelief. “So, you’re saying your reputation is everything, and mine is nothing? When I knelt, there were many women from noble families watching. I’m sure they’re all secretly mocking me right now!”

Kamila didn’t even glance at her daughter-in-law. “You’ve always been a laughingstock among those people,” she muttered dismissively.

Jaliyah’s anger flared even more. With a swift motion, she knocked the delicate cups on the table to the floor, shattering them. “Your family sought me out for this marriage,” she spat. “Why didn’t you tell me I was a laughingstock when you came to my house to discuss my marriage to your son because you were short on money? If my father hadn’t given your family money, you would have gone bankrupt! And now you dare call me a laughingstock? Well, I’ll show you—”
