Chapter 325
Alex stood there, frozen for a heartbeat.
The woman in his arms-Jasmine Kingston, stunningly beautiful and dangerously close had just asked him to rent a hotel room.
His pulse roared, warmth surged through his veins, desire clawing fiercely at his chest.
Jasmine wasn't just any woman; she was a legend in Vancouver, one of the top three beauties in the city.
Every fiber in Alex's body screamed with longing.
Freshly divorced, finally free, nothing stood in his way-no commitments, no chains.
He studied her carefully, mesmerized by her misty eyes and parted lips.
"Stop looking at me like that," Jasmine whispered, her voice heavy with anticipation.
"You're driving me crazy. Just say yes, Alex. Or no-don't say anything, just take me. Anywhere you want."
She slowly licked her lips, making his heart slam violently against his chest.
"No!"
The shout cracked through the air like a whip, forcing Alex and Jasmine to pull apart instantly.
They turned to see Alfred Kingsley marching toward them, flanked by a team of soldiers and medics.
"Father?" Jasmine's voice trembled, her eyes wide with shock.
Alfred stopped a few paces away, his stern gaze flicking between them. Then, softer, almost awkwardly, he said, "I'm sorry, Alex... you'll have to carry her."
He hesitated. Inside, he was sweating bullets.
Alex wasn't just anyone he was one of the highest-ranking figures in Kingswell.
And now Alfred's daughter had clung to him, asked him to carry her.
It was crossing a line. Alfred knew it, and it made his skin crawl with discomfort. Surely Alex felt it too.
Trying to smooth things over, Alfred cleared his throat. "My daughter will be okay with the medics. Thank you for helping her this far."
He motioned quickly, and two medics rushed in with a stretcher.
"Jasmine," he added firmly, "stop troubling Mr. Alex. You'll rest better at the hospital."
Alex and Jasmine stared blankly at Alfred, their shared moment shattered.
Alfred frowned suspiciously, scanning between the two of them. "Did I interrupt something?"
"No," Alex answered swiftly, gently easing Jasmine onto the stretcher.
As she settled, she shot her father an icy smile.
"Father, I've never hated you more than right now."
Alfred flinched, clearly startled, and turned back to Alex. "Seriously, what did I miss here?"
"Absolutely nothing," Alex said curtly, stepping aside. "Except that you're remarkably good at ruining things."
Alfred grimaced, then turned sharply toward Number Four, who stood nervously nearby.
"Four, you called me for backup. I've never moved faster in my life, and now they both hate me. Mind explaining?"
"I...I'm sorry, sir," Four stammered anxiously. "I genuinely don't know."
Alfred glared at her, eyes narrowing in cold judgment. "You've been here the
whole time and know nothing? You're utterly worthless."
For someone built on perfection, being called useless once was brutal-four times, it broke her.
Four fainted where she stood.
Meanwhile, across the city, Hugh Jones was rushed into Chicago's finest hospital, carried by his panicked men.
His father, Tom Jones, raced frantically to meet him.
Jane Johnson, daughter of Chicago's second-most influential lord and Hugh's fiancée, hurried anxiously alongside, completely unaware that Hugh planned to discard her for Jasmine.
"Father!" Hugh howled, agony etched across his pale face. "I'm crippled! My leg- it's gone!"
Tom grasped Hugh's trembling hand firmly, determination blazing in his eyes. "Stay calm, son. I'll find the best doctors money can buy. Whatever the cost, I promise you'll walk again!"
Jane rushed to Hugh's bedside, her voice shaking with desperation.
"Listen to your father, Hugh. We have resources-rare medicines, powerful connections. You'll recover, I swear!"
"Recovery isn't enough!" Hugh snarled bitterly, rage twisting his features.
"I want revenge! I want that bastard who took my leg and cost me billions to pay!" Tears streaming down her cheeks, Jane clutched Hugh's hand desperately. "Hugh, tell me exactly what happened. They're saying you're involved with Jasmine Kingston's disappearance. Is it true? Please, tell me everything." Hugh's eyes flicked to his father. Seeing Tom's subtle nod, Hugh quickly crafted his story, ensuring their secret remained intact.
"Jane, the rumors are lies," Hugh whispered convincingly.
"Jasmine Kingston contacted me, insisting we meet. When we did, she threw herself at me, begging me to marry her-she wanted the power of our family's name."
Jane's expression twisted from worry to fury in an instant.
"That wretched woman from a pathetic little state dared to do this? She dared to steal you from me?"
Her voice cracked with raw hatred. "She just signed her death warrant!"
"Yeah," Hugh sneered bitterly, his eyes narrowing with spite.
"That's exactly what I told her. 'You're just a cheap little nobody from some worthless state. I've got a fiancé already the most stunning woman in all of Chicago.""
Jane nodded eagerly, her voice sharp and satisfied. "That's right, Hugh. She needs to know her place."
"But things escalated fast," Hugh continued, feigning a pained expression.noveldrama
"Jane, when I turned her down, she
went ballistic. She threatened to frame me, said she'd tell everyone I kidnapped her, and worse, she'd rally her father's entire state against us."
Jane leaned closer, eyes wide with urgency. "So, what did you tell her?"
Hugh grimaced dramatically, gesturing to his bandaged legs.
"I stood firm―I told her straight up: my heart belongs only to my beautiful fiancé.
That's when her jealousy went insane. She had my legs destroyed."
Tears swam in Jane's eyes as her fists clenched. "This is all my fault. You lost your legs because of me. I'll fix this. My father can buy revenge. He'll crush that filthy witch."
"No, wait," Hugh interjected quickly, his voice tight with concealed greed. He still craved Jasmine, still hungered for her beauty.
"It wasn't her. There's a guy named Alex, someone close to her. He's the bastard who personally ruined me. He's the one I want to punish."
Jane rose swiftly, determination blazing in her eyes.
"Consider it done." She stormed out, leaving Hugh and Tom alone in the tense
silence.
Hugh watched the door close, then turned, his voice cautious yet cold.
"Jane hasn't changed a bit. She's still as gullible as ever."
Tom let out a cold laugh. "Her father's the richest man in Chicago-the second
lord. If it weren't for his money, I wouldn't waste a second on that spoiled, useless brat."
Hugh glanced around, then lowered his voice to a cold, sharp whisper.
"Father, have you secured the men involved in this incident? The ones who know our secret? Some of them are my closest friends, the only ones I truly trust. But can you guarantee none of them will talk? Can you swear Jane won't find out?"
Tom gave a firm nod. "Absolutely. They're all contained."
Hugh leaned in, his eyes cold and unwavering. You know how this works, Father-money makes
anyone talk. Even the loyal ones
Even those I call brothers. We can't take that risk. Jane has the cash to buy them all."
A sinister smile curled on Tom's lips. "No worries. Dead men don't take bribes." "Everyone involved is already buried-including that childhood friend of yours, the one who brought you here. I remember you used to call him brother."
Hugh's chuckle was equally chilling. "Perfect."
Across the city, Jane burst into her father's lavish office, her eyes blazing with
fury.
"Dad! Someone tried to murder my fiancé. You have to do something!"
Hans Johnson exhaled slowly, a weary father burdened by endless drama. "Are
you sure Hugh didn't provoke the Kingstons first?"
"Hugh told me everything. I trust him," Jane insisted fiercely.
Hans stared at his only child, his heart softening. "Alright, sweetheart, what do
you need from me?"
"I want Alex dead," she spat venomously. "He works for Jasmine Kingston, and he
hurt Hugh. He needs to suffer."
Hans paused, contemplating the dangerous request. "Fine. I'll put out a bounty.
Ten million dollars should handle it."
"Dad," Jane snapped, eyes flashing angrily. "That's nothing!"
He sighed deeply. "Alright, fifty million then."
"Father," she pleaded, her eyes filling with tears. "Hugh lost his legs because of
me. It's my fault. Double it, please?"
Hans hesitated, the absurdity sinking in. "Jane, a hundred million is insane. The whole damn country will hunt this guy. It's nuclear warfare against one bug."
"Daddy," Jane whimpered, her tears real, her manipulation flawless.
Hans broke, resigned to defeat. "Fine. A hundred million."
Within an hour, the word exploded across the underworld. Hitmen, bounty hunters, and every thug from coast to coast tasted blood, the
promise of a hundred million dollars electrifying their veins.
Alex's days were numbered, and the city braced for chaos.
