Book 3 Chapter 31.
Maverick POV.
I'm all partied out. Melody is on a sugar high and is running round like an overactive squirrel on a massive energy boost. I did try to limit the candy and all the goodies she was eating, but the little madam was sneaking them. Her hair, which took me an hour to do, was hanging loose. The buns long gone. She has glitter all over her and her white top isn't white anymore. Rookie mistake on my part.
But she has had fun and so have I. I have hardly seen Harmony, but I have had eyes on her. I mean, you can't miss her with the green wig and orange face. She looked amazing. Everyone put in the effort for today and I am proud to be a part of this club.
POD has set the standards for all the other clubs and even though the other clubs help in their territories, no one goes above and beyond like POD does, and I am so proud to be a member.
The praise Harmony and the club have received throughout today has been overwhelming. The women from the shelter and the kids from the hospital have all had a great time. Melody has made more friends with kids and everyone just loves her.
The toys Melody won she gave them to the kids who didn't have anything. My chest puffed out with pride for my daughter. I even received compliments on my parenting and how my little girl is such a kind-hearted soul. I teared up at the praise for her and me. But I can't take all the credit for Melody. It should go to Lucky and Harmony too.
Melody didn't really speak to strangers, but she did with Harmony the first time we went into her store for the mommy, daddy, and me session. Melody seemed to just feel safe with Harmony and, well, she made us feel welcome, even though she was sceptical at first. But I knew the moment I saw her, I knew she was the one for me.
I have helped where I could today with the members who had run some of the stalls and kept my eyes open for any trouble.
Security isn't an issue because who would be silly enough to attack an event like today's? No one, so we didn't have the prospects on the gate. We had the local sheriffs. They even were walking around, making sure everyone was safe and happy. Everyone seems to be having a great time. That is until I look towards Harmony and she looks lost in thought.
I turn to Harry, AKA Wild Child, and he sees her too.
"Watch Melody for me. I'm going to see what is wrong." I tell him and he nods, scooping up Melody and moving to the next stall, even though she has done each stall at least three times. I make my way through the crowd and reach for Harmony.
"Baby, what's up?" I ask her, and she is worrying her lip between her teeth.
"Harmony, what is it?" I ask her again and she looks up at me and then gasps for breath as she looks around frantically.
"He is here." She says before she darts off towards the front gate. What? Who is here? I take off after her. Calling her name but she isn't listening as her walks turns to a jog then sprint.
Fuck!
I take off just as I catchup to her she is talking to the sherif at the gate giving a description of a man. When it clicks. The man from the shop he was here. The one she has been trying to remember where she had seen him from before.
"Miss Harmony, I can get the body cam footage reviewed and you can identify him from there. Besides, won't your CCTV pick up on him?" The sheriff says, pointing at the gates security cameras and Harmony's face changes. She smiles and goes to take off again.
"Wait, wait, wait, slow down. What is going on?" I say as I grab a hold of her to stop her from bolting again.
"Goon one, he was here. I saw him. He looked right at me. I looked away to find you or any member, but y'all were too far away. When I turned around, he was gone, vanished into thin air. I know where I think I have seen him before." She says and I look at her, waiting for her to elaborate on it further. When she doesn't, I ask her.
"Where?" I say to her and she is back to chewing her bottom lip. I gently tug her lip from her teeth and she blinks up at me, lost in her head for a moment.
"The auction, he was at the auction." My breath catches in my throat as I take her hand and lead her back to the party.noveldrama
"Ok, look, let's go and speak to your parents. Harry is watching Melody, and we will check the footage." I tell her and she nods her head. There is nothing we can do now. He isn't here.
Why is he here, though? Is he using Dana as a cover? The bigger question is, is he here for Harmony or Mystique, or possibly both?
I keep my hand in hers, giving her a squeeze to tell her I'm here. She is scanning the crowd and I'm doing the same. My eyes lock on Rebel and she moves towards us.
"What happened?" Rebel takes Harmony's face in her hands, looking into her daughter's eyes.
"The man who came to the shop a few days back with Dana. He was here. Harmony now remembers where she has seen him before." I tell Rebel and she looks at me before looking back at Harmony. Rebel looks worried. Why would she look worried? She is the baddest woman on the planet.
"Where have you seen him before, baby? Tell me and I will hunt him down and bring him to his damn knees." Rebel says with a chilling bite to her tone. Even though this woman is tiny, I shiver at the look in her honey-coloured eyes. Rebel will bring any man or woman to their knees with one look.
"The auction, he was at the auction, momma. I don't know why he is here or what he wants. But he was here. I saw him." Harmony tells her mom and Rebel stands up straight and her face is stoic as she looks at her daughter. I stiffen too under the gaze that Rebel has right now. Rebel knows who he is.
"Come with me." I look at rebel and she smirks at me. No, she doesn't have him. Does she?
We follow behind Rebel to the back of the clubhouse to the prison. Ok maybe she does. She enters the code and we enter. All the time my hand hasn't let go of Harmony. The closer we get to the red room.
Rebel opens the door and my eyes widen as I see three men and Dana restrained to chairs in the middle of the room.
"We couldn't catch the other one. But these have been very co-operative with my questioning." Rebel says with a chilling smirk on her face.
"Who is he, and why is he here?" Harmony asks, her voice above a whisper. "Dana, darling, why you don't you tell my daughter what you told me?" Rebel says as she walks to Dana and grabs her by the back of her head and pulls her head up. Dana groans and I see the dried blood streaks on her face. How long has Rebel had them here and why weren't we told?
"Joel Robertson." I look at Harmony and she looks confused. Then her eyes widen and she gasps for breath. I look from Harmony to Rebel and she looks angry. Really angry.
"Who is he to you?" I ask Harmony, not liking this one bit. I know he won't be an ex or anything, because she told me she never had a boyfriend. She looks frozen, frightened even. What did this guy to do her? And why come to her now?
"Joel was a boy from my high school. He was my best friend and then he got in with the wrong crowd. So we stopped being friends when he did something unforgivable. Harry kicked his ass for it and we never saw him again." She says, looking down, and I can feel her pain.
"What did he do to you? And how is he connected to the auctions?" I ask her. She shakes her head and Rebel moves closer to her and pulls her into her arms. Rebel looks at me and I can see the pain in her eyes. Harmony is sobbing quietly on her mom's shoulder. Rebel tightens her hold whispering telling her it's ok.
“Joel drugged her and if Harry didn't get to her in time, Joel would have raped her."
