Chapter 218
The surroundings weren't quiet, but even so, Dominick could hear his own frantic heartbeat. He stared at Paisley, desperate for answers. "Paisley"
"I don't want to talk to you about anything right now. Paisley avoided his gaze and walked away.
"But 1- Dominick tried to follow her, but Max stepped forward, blocking his path.
Dominick's eyes darkened, glaring coldly at Max. "Move,"
"No," Max said, wearing his usual infuriatingly smug expression.
This is between me and Paisley-it's a family matter. It has nothing to do
with you," Dominick said, his tone laced with menace
"Family matter?" Max smirked. "Last I checked, you two are divorced."
Seeing Dominick's face, Max casually rubbed his brow. "Don't get so worked up-
it's bad for your liver. And stop frowning so much-it'll make you look old."
You-Dominick was about to lose control.
At that moment, Jonathan emerged from the emergency room again, his face tense but not as grim as before. "Paisley, your daughter has a ruptured spleen." "Ruptured spleen. Paisley repeated softly, her mind already racing with thoughts.
"Yeah, fortunately, we caught it in time. It's not too severe yet, but she needs surgery immediately, Jonathan explained Serena's condition to Paisley,
"Can her spleen be saved?" Paisley asked. Without seeing the test reports or scans, she could only rely on Jonathan for
information
Paisley had a good understanding of the human body's basic structure. The spleen was the largest lymphatic organ in the body. It stored blood, produced blood cells, removed aging red blood cells, and aided in immune responses. For an adult, removing the
spleen after a rupture didn't have too much impact on daily life. But Serena was just three years old. If her spleen was removed, it would definitely affect her body.
Jonathan frowned slightly but
didn't make any definitive statements. "I know, We've arranged for a consultation to try our best to save her spleen.
Grayson's final check-
up results came back normal. Other than external injuries, he had no other issues. He was discharged that night and returned to Vanderbilt Manor.
Having been scared, injured, and crying nonstop at the hospital, Grayson fell asleep as soon as he got home. Meanwhile, the other three members of the Vanderbilt family couldn't fall asleep. "My brother
is still at the hospital. He just called and said the surgery is done," Kayla said, glancing at the clock. It was already
very late
Lauren and Reginald exchanged glances but didn't speak. The living room atmosphere felt a little heavy.
Kayla finally broke the silence. "Mom, Dad, do you think Serena could really be my brother's?"
Lauren and Reginald's eyes lit up. When they thought that she could be their granddaughter, a subtle wave of happiness washed over them.
"Earlier at the hospital, I overheard my brother and Paisley. It seemed like my brother already
suspected Serena was his daughter, so he asked Paisley, and she told him the child was blood type A
"But today, she said her daughter's blood type is O. If the child wasn't my brother's, there'd be no reason for her to lie about it, even if she's type O. So-
Kayla suddenly stood up and declared, "She's likely my brother's daughter! Your granddaughter!"
Reginald and Lauren both felt Kayla's reasoning made sense. Just as she said, if Serena weren't from the Vanderbilt family. Paisley could've easily stated her real blood type. There was no need to deceive Dominick.
With that in mind, both of them smiled. Especially Lauren, who was over the moon. She had been dreaming of having a cute granddaughter. She imagined dressing her up like a little princess every day and taking her out for shopping and afternoon coffee. Reginald was just
as delighted. The thought of that adorable child bouncing over to him and calling him "Grandpa" made him beam with joy. However, he kept a level head and didn't let his excitement get the better of him.
"Let's not jump to conclusions. I've already arranged for a genetic sample to be taken. Once we do a paternity test with Dominick, we'll know for sure."
Kayla rolled her eyes. "Paisley won't agree to that, especially after what you've said, Mom. She turned to her mother. "There's no way she'd let you claim her daughter."
From what she saw, Paisley made it very clear today she wanted nothing to do with them-
even going as far as slapping her mom. Besides, who would want a grandmother who called them illegitimate?
Lauren suddenly remembered the slap she got from Paisley earlier. She instinctively touched her cheek, still recalling the sting of it.
Angrily, she furrowed her brows and said, "Who said I want to claim a granddaughter? We haven't even done the paternity test yet. Who knows if the child is even my granddaughter?"
Kayla glanced at her mom and said nothing, unimpressed. 'Mom, keep denying, she thought to herself.noveldrama
