The Girlboss Begs for Remarriage

Chapter 2398

"Quit being so pessimistic, or I'd really be discouraged."

Frank snorted but stood up. "Come on already. I have nothing else to do anyway!"

"You're the best brat ever!"

Sylvie strode up and pecked him on the cheek, smiling cheerfully and unabashedly. "I have a huge reward waiting after we're done."

Frank smiled but said nothing, since he knew very well what it was.

Nonetheless, they were in Shanton two hours later, passing the police line and arriving at the dig site soon enough.noveldrama

The dig team had been waiting for a while, their scowls quickly fading as they appeared hopeful to see Frank.

Someone exclaimed, "Mr. Frankton's here! This is as good as done, just watch!"

Another person promptly snapped, "Are you serious?! Do you think he can keep the hypogeum intact while the load-bearing structures are being set up?"

Everyone turned to stare at the youth named Ernest Lane, the son of the construction team's supervisor.

He had come to see if there was any work, only to be scared shitless when he heard that the hypogeum needed new load-bearing structures.

Everyone had a good laugh from that, which left him exceedingly frustrated.

Naturally, when Sylvie suggested bringing in someone who could help, he came to see who it could be... only for it to turn out to be some ordinary civilian, and hardly anyone impressive as Sylvie had put it.

And Sylvie certainly heard him. "You should watch your words, Mr. Lane, and we just might let you stay here. Insult my kid again, and I'll complain to the higher-ups about your sloppy work!"

Ernest frowned, but amusingly, his construction team were inexperienced and were not local on top of that. As they were not that knowledgeable, they had no idea that Shanton had more tombs than houses.

And to save time and cost, they bent some rules, which had led to the incident in the first place.

As Sylvie's threat left him deflated, he did not dare say another word.

Frank then told Sylvie, "If there are no other issues, let's go in. For now, we'll be assessing the condition of the hypogeum, so we aren't taking anything out just yet."

"Okay!"

While Sylvie had her own mind about things, Frank was more knowledgeable, so Sylvie was happy to go along.

As they descended into the hypogeum, a pungent scent quickly struck their

noses.

It was the stench of rotting corpses!

"Wait, this place should be airtight," Sylvie murmured in confusion. "How could anyone have gotten in here?"

Frank did not appear surprised.

"Tomb raiders, most likely. There's no shortage of people like them hoping to hit it rich overnight, only to end-up burying themselves because of their ambition."

"Right. Guess I was surprised for nothing." Sylvie chuckled self-deprecatingly and strode in with Frank.

They passed a long passage, and soon arrived at a burial chamber stacked with gems, gold, and other artifacts that were worth even more!

Frank was left bemused. "Shouldn't tomb raiders have messed with the artifacts if they were here?"

Sylvie giggled. "You might not be aware, but anything pre-Renaissance isn't up from trade, especially when the source is unknown!

"Naturally, there's no ruling out the black market, but who can really afford it? Others might even rat you out to the authorities out of sheer spite, and you'd bite off more than you can chew!

"That's why those tomb raiders are quite smart and stick to gems or gold."

Frank smiled in wry amusement.

"What do you take me for? Sure, one

can't sell it legitimately, and they

might get ratted out for it, but there's no low that tomb raiders wouldn't stoop to. And what if they sold their booty abroad?"

Sylvie nodded. "That could happen, but it's not likely, considering honor among thieves..."
