Chapter 670 Crying Under the Red Flag
Daniel and Denzel finished speaking and immediately groveled to the villagers, their heads hitting the ground with loud thuds.
The scene fell into sudden silence. For a moment, no one spoke.
Maverick was still being stepped on by Marcus. He wanted to warn everyone not to be fooled, but the moment Marcus exerted pressure, the pain silenced him completely.
Lynette, Sue, and Ann were crying silently, tears streaming down their faces, but not a single sob escaped their lips.
The other girls, protected in the corner by Elijah, Sophia, and Connie, remained just as silent.
Daniel and Denzel were among the most promising young men in the village. They had received an education and experienced a shift in perspective. Unlike most of the other men, they often helped their siblings and their mother at home.
They also stood up for the weaker children in the village.
Now, as they spoke out for Lynette and the other girls, it was a sign that this village was not entirely beyond saving.
Natalie let out a slow breath and stepped forward, pulling Marcus back.
Freed at last, Maverick scrambled to his feet, ready to start cursing. But before he could, Dawson stepped up and held him back.
"Maverick, I support Daniel and Denzel. If they stand with Lynette and the other girls, then let them go. I trust them."
"No way." Martin was the first to object. He was still counting on using Lynette as leverage for an arranged marriage. There was no way he would let her leave.
He hadn't listened to a single word Daniel and Denzel had said.
This was how things had always been in Ashford Vale. Why should things change now? He refused to accept it.
"Whatever your family does is your business, but Lynette is not going anywhere."
"Martin, go to hell!" Lynette sprang to her feet, ran to grab a weapon from the table, and aimed it straight at Martin.
"If you're going to block my way, then you die first."
Her teeth were clenched, and her eyes were bloodshot with fury.
The weapon fired in an instant, hitting Martin straight in the stomach. He clutched his wound and stared at Lynette in disbelief.
"Martin, you wanted to trade me for a wife? Keep dreaming. I'd rather kill you first and make sure you never get to be a man."
She pressed the trigger again. This time, the weapon struck Martin's most vital
area.
His screams of agony pierced the air as he collapsed to the ground.
"Martin!"
Maverick wailed as he rushed forward, cradling his son in his arms. "Somebody get a doctor! Now!"
There was a doctor in Ashford Vale, but he was brought in by Natalie and others. Without Natalie's approval, no doctor would come to save Martin.
"Dad! That bitch, Lynette, is trying to ruin me! She's trying to ruin me!"
Martin's screams were filled with agony. His stomach wound didn't even matter to him. He was fixated on the fact that he had just lost his manhood.
"Martin, now that you're injured, what do you have left to brag about?" Lynette sneered. "There will be no more heirs for the family."
"Y-You wicked girl, I should have never brought you into this world!" Maverick sobbed uncontrollably. "Doctor! Somebody save him!"
"If you want my doctor to save your son, then sure." Natalie stepped forward. "Sign the agreement with Lynette. Consider the 10,000 dollars payment for Martin's medical bill.
"From this moment on, Lynette owes you nothing. If you refuse, then just watch him die."
"I won't sign it."
"Dad, I'm dying."
Martin's screams grew weaker, but his desperation was clear. "Dad, just sign it! I don't want to be an eunuch!"noveldrama
"But if I sign it, we won't get that 10,000 dollars!" Maverick hesitated. "Martin, without that money, how will we find you a wife?"
"He's already lost his manhood. Are you still thinking about having him find a wife?" Lynette laughed coldly. "Take it or leave it. Either way, I'll never acknowledge you lot again.
"Natalie, don't let the doctor treat him."
"I'll sign! I'll sign!" Lorraine wailed, her hands trembling. "Lynette, how could you
be so cruel? He's your brother!"
"I have no such brother. He never treated me as his sister, so I won't treat him as my brother."
Her voice was devoid of any warmth. "And I don't have a mother like you either. You're all one happy family, while I was just the stray you picked up.
"If you push me any further, I'll kill you too. Killing one means breaking even. Killing two means I come out ahead. You don't let me live, and I won't let you live either."
"She's lost her mind. She's gone crazy!" Lorraine muttered in shock, then threw herself at the paper on the ground. Biting her finger, she pressed her bloody fingerprint onto it.
"If Maverick won't sign, then I will! No matter what, we have to save Martin's life. Natalie, please have the doctor save Martin!"
"Maverick, Martin, both of you need to sign it, too. Sign it, and he gets treated."
Natalie's voice was cold as she said expressionlessly, "Who knows if he can still be saved if you sign it too late?"
"I'll sign! I'll sign!"
Martin, barely conscious, forced himself to scribble his name and press his bloody fingerprint onto the paper before passing out.
Maverick had no choice but to sign as well.
Seeing this, Sue and Ann grabbed weapons and turned to their respective families. "Dad, Mom, are you signing or not? If not, we'll do what Lynette did!"
"You can still get 10,000 dollars from us now. If you don't sign, you'll get nothing."
"I'll sign! I'll sign!"
Andrew Sandrell, Sue's brother, raised his hands in surrender. "I'll sign the thing! I won't force you into a marriage! Just don't kill me!"
"I'll sign too! I'll sign!"
"We'll all sign!"
One by one, the men of Ashford Vale
gave in. They were terrified that i they hesitated too long, their sisters and daughters might take matters into their own hands and make sure they'd never be men again.
Sue and Ann exhaled in relief, finally holding the signed agreements that freed
them.
Even the younger girls followed their example despite their age, demanding their own agreements be signed.
Natalie said nothing. She knew
these agreements might not hold up
in the long run as the villagers didn't even know where to report things or how the law worked. But spending 10,000 dollars to cut ties and start fresh was worth it.
She was sure Lynette and the other girls would earn it back someday. Most importantly, they had learned a valuable lesson; women should help other women.
And when it came to family members who only sought to drain them dry, they
finally had the courage to say no.
Soon, all the agreements were signed, and the doctor treated Martin. The villagers slowly dispersed, leaving only Natalie and the girls on the school field.
"Congratulations," she said as she walked up to them, pulling them into a hug. "You've been reborn."
She continued, "You were brave. Cutting ties with a family like that isn't a bad thing."
"Ms. Natalie..."
Lynette choked on a sob, then broke down completely. As she cried, Sue and Ann
followed, the three of them clinging to each other, sobbing uncontrollably.
On the field, their cries tore through the air.
