The Lady Nun Vows Revenge

The Silent 674

The moment the maid spoke, everyone at the entrance instinctively turned to look

at

Eliza.

Renee was about to reprimand her, but Eliza raised her hand, stopping her in her tracks.

Ignoring the maid's words, Eliza shifted her attention to the crowd gathered at the

entrance.

Typically, guests wouldn't dare approach the host's private quarters, especially given Eliza's status as the Holy Lady, which placed her far above them.

It was clear that someone had intentionally led them here.

At this point, Eliza didn't even need to guess. She already knew who was behind

it.

She found it puzzling, though. She had assumed that today's troublemakers would either be the Duke's estate or Sophie.

But to her surprise, it turned out to be the Henderson family.

Could Isabelle be the mastermind behind this?

Eliza's gaze briefly met that of the Prince Regent, who stood just outside the

crowd, arms crossed and a faint smirk on his lips.

'With deliberate movements, he silently mouthed some words to her.

In that instant, Eliza understood everything.

Her thoughts raced as she turned her sharp gaze to Fletcher and his entourage. "Lord Henderson, it seems your servants are in dire need of proper training. A maid with no manners, and others wandering around as if they own the place, do they even know how to serve their master? If my staff hadn't intervened in time, this newly reopened estate might've ended up with its first addition being a corpse instead of decorations."

With just a few sentences, Eliza delivered a cutting counterattack. She first criticized the Henderson servants for their negligence, then threw the notion of "bad luck" squarely at Jacqueline.

The other guests exchanged uneasy glances, clearly feeling secondhand embarrassment for Fletcher.

After all, today's event was meant to celebrate the Padilla family's grand reopening.

On such a joyous occasion, if negligence on the part of the Henderson family's servants had led to a corpse appearing in the estate's pond on its very first day, how unlucky would that be?

In most households, the host might share some of the blame in such a situation. But the Padilla family was no ordinary household.

Eliza was not someone you could easily push around.

"Now that the person's been saved, Lord Fletcher, there's no need to stand on ceremony. A little thing like 'a life-saving favor' is really not a big deal."

With a faint smile, Eliza glanced at Fletcher, whose expression briefly twisted. She continued, "But I suggest you take the time to properly discipline your daughter and servants when you return. Otherwise, if they pull stunts like this at someone else's home, there's no guarantee they'll be lucky enough to be saved next time." She sneered inwardly. 'You think you can stir up trouble in the Padilla family? Not on my watch! What "life-saving favor"? That's utter nonsense!'

Jacqueline was so angry that she could practically hear her teeth grinding. 'That scheming witch! She saw through everything and used "life-saving favor" to shut us down before Father could even speak!'

Unlike Jacqueline's fury, Fletcher remained calm and composed.

At the doorway, he bowed flawlessly before addressing Eliza. "You're absolutely right, Your Grace. Those two servants of ours are a disgrace. I'll make sure they get what's coming to them when we return."

Fletcher's response was smooth, but in the next moment, his tone shifted entirely.

"However, such trivial matters are ultimately internal affairs of the Henderson family. These two servants are, after all, our people. If Your Grace finds their behavior displeasing, you could have simply informed me or my daughter. Why resort to direct punishment here? Would Your Grace care to explain this to me and the esteemed guests present?"

"Explain?" Eliza let out a cold laugh. "What kind of explanation do you expect from me?"
