Chapter 25
Evelyn's voice was extremely calm.
Despite the ability to have children being extremely important for every woman, she no longer cared about it.
She would do everything she could and leave the rest to fate.
She wasn't even certain of how long she would be able to live, so her ability to have children or not paled in comparison to all her other worries.
Mike could understand Evelyn's feelings, so he inquired, "Then, when do you plan on starting chemotherapy? I'd suggest that you start it within the next three months."
Clenching her hands, Evelyn replied, "Alright. I'll make all the necessary arrangements as soon as possible."
At the end of their discussion, they unanimously agreed on the temporary conservative treatment plan.
She would begin with radiation therapy first, and she had also received a prescription for a special medication meant to suppress the spread of cancer cells as much as possible.
As she held onto her prescription, she did not collect her medication immediately. Instead, she went to the sanatorium located behind the hospital building.
No matter how calm and composed she was, she still felt lost and helpless since she was facing the possibility of death. So, she subconsciously wanted to look for someone she could rely on.
Suddenly, she felt the need to visit her uncle.
However, when Evelyn arrived at the wards on the 12th floor, Leonard's area was empty. The nurses at the front desk then informed her that Leonard was currently undergoing chemotherapy.
So, Evelyn went to the floor where the doctors carried out all of their
chemotherapy treatment. When she arrived, she heard the suppressed groans from inside the room.
The loud grounds eventually became uncontrollable as Leonard cried out in agony.
Leonard was also so composed, yet he was now so fragile and powerless. She immediately felt a chill wash over her, and she left in a hurry.
She only returned after seeing a nurse push him back into his room. However, he looked pale and ashen, the chemotherapy having a huge effect on him. Then, he began vomiting.
Evelyn did not enter his ward, sitting outside the corridor for a long time.noveldrama
She thought about what would happen to her once she started receiving chemotherapy. She wondered if she would end up like Leonard.
Filled with numb despair, Evelyn got up to leave. She took her prescription and went to collect her medication.
Walking past the hospital's lobby, she heard a familiar voice. "Tiffany, why are you suddenly down with a cold? I was worried sick!"
Turning her head, Evelyn saw Sophia touching Tiffany's forehead as they sat by the hospital's bench. Sophia's eyes had even reddened with worry.
Tiffany smiled. "It's just a cold. There's no need for you to be so worried." "You're my future sister-in-law. Of course, I'll feel bad if you're sick. I heard that Lucas had spent the whole night taking care of you," Sophia teased.
Tiffany froze momentarily before pursing her lips and smiling without saying a word. However, it was no different from a confirmation of Sophia's words.
On the other side, Lucas was looking at Tiffany's report intently. He gave Tiffany all the care and attention she needed while she was ill, making them look like a real family.
Evelyn looked down at the bag full of pills in her hand, and she did not know how to feel.
"Tiffany, look at how well I'm treating you. I even prepared some oatmeal for you. I heard that it's good for those under the weather to have such foods. You should give it a try," Sophia elaborated, taking out the container from the bag.
She then opened the container as if it was gold for Tiffany. "I can bring you some more food next time if you like it."
Evelyn's gaze was drawn to the food container, and she immediately recognized it as the container she had used to pack Maria's food.
She watched the scene before her in confusion, unable to comprehend why the food she had cooked for Maria was now in Tiffany's hands.
Instinctively, she turned to look at Lucas calmly pouring a serving of oatmeal for Tiffany. He had even arranged the little snacks properly.
She had cooked for Lucas plenty of times throughout their marriage, and she did not believe he could not recognize that it was the same food she had once cooked for him.
However, not an ounce of shock appeared on his handsome face.
Evelyn clenched her hands. A gust of wind flew in through the open doors, pouring right into her heart.
Then, she turned to leave.
The second she looked away, Lucas seemed to have sensed something. As soon as he turned toward her direction, he immediately noticed her retreating figure.
Evelyn was already exhausted by the time she arrived at her car. After leaning for a while, she was about to get in when Lucas grabbed her wrist.
Then, he asked, "Evelyn, is this your medical report?"
What do you think?
