When fate plays its hand 995
Chapter 0995
No one expected Mason, who was always in good health, to suddenly have a stroke. Madison now had no choice but to return to her hometown.
Sebastian knew that her avoiding him was just an unintended result of the situation. He couldn’t bring himself to push her too hard–if he did, she would probably end up crying again.
“Have you eaten yet?” he asked suddenly.
Madison froze for a moment. She was still trying to figure out how to explain things, but Sebastian changed the topic before she could answer.
“Not yet.” She shook her head. “I’ve been so busy…‘
Who would remember to eat at a time like this?
Sebastian sighed. “Is there anything in the fridge?”
“I’m not sure.”
He went straight to the fridge and opened it without hesitation. It was as if he owned the place. To his relief, it was well–stocked with vegetables and meat. Rolling up his sleeves, he walked into the kitchen, picked a suitable pan, and turned on the stove.
20 minutes later, a steaming plate of spaghetti topped with a rich meat sauce was placed in front of Madison. A golden, sunny–side–up egg rested on another plate, sprinkled with fresh green onions and a dash of sesame seeds.
Under her wide–eyed gaze, he handed her a fork. “Eat.”
“Oh!” Madison took her first bite, paused briefly, and then began eating faster. She finally spoke after finishing most of the plate in just a few bites. “Seb! This… this spaghetti is… oh my gosh… it’s too…”
Her words were muffled by the food still in her mouth.
Sebastian chuckled. “Slow down. No one’s going to take it from you.”
“I’m saying–it’s delicious! Especially the sauce. How did you make it?”
He briefly explained how he made it. It sounded pretty complicated. If it weren’t for the sauce, he could’ve made the whole dish in less than 20 minutes.
Madison put her fork down and smacked her lips. “Um…“‘
Sebastian raised an eyebrow.
“Do you have more? I’m still hungry.”
He replied, “Yeah. Just wait a second.”
For the second plate, Madison ate at a more normal pace.
“When did you learn to cook like this?” she asked. “Your spaghetti used to…”
She trailed off and cleared her throat. What she meant was his cooking used to be a mushy mess with a flavor that didn’t even make sense.
“Two months ago,” Sebastian replied.
“What?”
“I took a cooking class.”
“What!”
His voice dropped a little. “Weren’t you the one who said you wanted a husband who could cook?”
Madison blinked in surprise and wondered if she had said that.
From her expression, Sebastian figured she had already forgotten. “You’re the worst, you know that?”
Madison groaned silently. She’d just been sitting there, and now she was suddenly the one at fault.
When she finished eating, he asked, “Do you want more?”
“No, I’m good.” She burped.
Sebastian was speechless. Then, he cleaned up the dishes and the kitchen before returning to the living room. Madison was scrolling through her phone and frowned as she looked at Mason’s test results.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“My mom just texted me. My dad can talk now, and his test results came back. The doctor said there’s no major issue, but he still can’t move…
She paused and continued, “What should I do, Seb? My relatives are coming tomorrow. When they see my dad like this, they’re definitely going to push us noveldrama

around.”
Sebastian asked, “Do you trust me?”
“Huh?”
“Don’t worry. I’ll handle it,” he said.
“How are you going to handle it?”
“Don’t worry about that. I’ll accompany you to the hospital tomorrow,” Sebastian said.
“Okay,” Madison replied.
What do you think?
