Chapter 1998 Was Not Aware
With just one question, she left the two grown men speechless again.
Throughout Cecilia's entire childhood, they hadn't even bought her a single piece of candy, treating her as if she were a stranger. When had they ever raised her?
James wore a somewhat gloomy expression. "Your words are a bit unkind, don't you think? Although we didn't raise you, our sister did. If it weren't for her, you would have frozen to death in the snow long ago. Surely, you can't forget that, can you?"
Cecilia knew they would say something like this.
She settled back into her chair, her eyes empty.
"My life hasn't belonged to the Escobar family for a long time. I've already returned it to Paula. My existence now has nothing to do with any of you. If you're planning to use this to manipulate me, I'm sorry, but I won't be as naive as I once was."
Her words were spoken with exceptional resolve.
James wanted to say something more, but he was held back by Jonah.
Jonah was indeed much smarter. He understood that it wasn't the right time to pressure Cecilia.
"Indeed. You're right. We never raised you, and it's understandable if you don't consider us your uncles. We hold no grudges. But we beg you, for the sake of our past familial ties, to spare us."
He seemed exceptionally sincere as he added, "I've already spoken to my mom. I promise she won't dare to trouble you again in the future."
When Cecilia saw him speak like that, it was indeed difficult for her to utter any unpleasant words.
However, she slowly said, “Mr. Escobar, I'm not quite sure what you're implying. I've never done anything to you. On the contrary, it was Old Mrs. Escobar who bothered me for no reason. Now that she's facing the consequences of her own actions, why am I being blamed?"
"Absolutely, the blame for this issue falls entirely on our mom," Jonah responded in a gentle and polite tone. "We bear no resentment toward you. We merely hope you could lend us a hand in calming the online community."
James seemed to have realized something as well, nodding in agreement. "Yes, indeed. Please help us out. Otherwise, both of our companies will be gone."
"How can I possibly control what others say?"
With a feigned difficulty, Cecilia continued, "You should figure it out yourselves. If there's nothing else, I need to get back to work."
James and Jonah could tell that Cecilia was genuinely reluctant to help. As they were about to voice their thoughts, the secretary came over and asked them to leave.
The two had no other choice but to leave.
As they were leaving, Cecilia made sure to have her secretary return all the items they had brought.
At that very moment, within another office, Yuliana had just come to understand the whole story.
She couldn't help but feel guilty. "I had no idea about this. I hope Cecilia isn't mad at me."
She had been away on a business trip, her mind preoccupied with securing a contract, and hadn't paid attention to the news on the internet.noveldrama
"Don't worry," Charlotte said. "Boss is very understanding. She won't blame you for such a trivial matter."
"That's good to hear. I really didn't expect the people from the Escobar family to be so shameless!"
Yuliana recalled the first time she accompanied Cecilia back to the Smith residence and the encounter with that sharp-tongued, bitter old lady. She sighed at her own naivety for actually førgetting about that incident.
James and Jonah didn't gain any advantages from Cecilia, and their faces were
filled with worry and discontent.
"What do we do now? Cecilia isn't willing to help us," James said.
Jonah seemed less worried than him. "James, though Cecilia didn't agree to help us earlier, I don't think she'd let anyone harm us. Our best course of action right now would be to manage the online community."
What do you think?
